At the heart of our design firm is Tracy, a visionary whose journey into interior design is as unique as the spaces she creates. With a background that blends education, travel, and a deep love for history and fashion, Tracy has developed a design aesthetic that is both timeless and innovative. Get to know her below as she shares her inspirations, values, and the creative process that drives her work.
Q: What was your journey into interior design?
My path to interior design was anything but conventional. Armed with three college degrees, including a Masters in Education, I spent three years teaching sixth graders before realizing my true passion lay elsewhere. I loved teaching, but there was always this creative spark in me that I couldn’t ignore. Determined to follow my dream, I returned to college to study interior design and soon found myself working for a local design firm. In 2011, I took the leap and founded my own firm, bringing my unique vision to life. Designing has always been in my blood—I’ve been creating spaces for friends and family for as long as I can remember.
Q: Who or what has been the most significant influence in your life and career?
My influences are as diverse as my designs. Family and life experiences have shaped me, while travel, nature, and music fuel my creativity. Couture fashion, with its artistry and attention to detail, is a constant source of inspiration. I’m also a bit of a history buff, and I find that looking to the past often gives me fresh perspectives on modern design.
Q: What are some of your favorite travel destinations, and how have they influenced your design work?
Travel is a cornerstone of my creative process. Spain and Italy captivate me with their tonal architecture, vibrant Mediterranean colors, and the contrast between crisp blue skies and sultry evenings. Ireland, on the other hand, offers a different kind of inspiration—the deep green countryside against the rugged coastline is a reminder of nature’s raw beauty. These landscapes have a way of influencing my palette and materials, bringing a sense of place to every project.
Q: What values or principles guide you in both your professional and personal life?
Love and kindness are at the core of everything I do. Interior design is a service industry, and it’s essential to treat everyone with care and respect. Whether I’m working with a client, a colleague, or a supplier, I believe that kindness is the key to creating spaces that feel warm and welcoming.
Q: What’s your favorite part of the design process, from initial concept to final installation?
Every phase of the design process excites me. There’s something special about that first design meeting—when ideas are fresh and full of potential. But there’s also nothing quite like the moment when the final accessory is in place and the client sees their vision come to life. It’s the culmination of creativity, collaboration, and trust, and it never gets old.
Q: If you could design a space for any historical figure (or celebrity), who would it be and why?
My first love was fashion, and it continues to inspire my work today. I’d be thrilled to design for Phoebe Philo—her minimalist style speaks to my love for clean lines and understated elegance. On the other end of the spectrum, Carmen Miranda’s exuberant style would be a dream to translate into a maximalist interior. The contrast between these two iconic women mirrors the diversity of my own design approach.
Q: Is there a particular design project or moment in your career that you feel particularly proud of?
It’s always the most recently finished project that makes me proud. Each project is a new challenge, and there’s a deep sense of fulfillment in seeing it through to the end. Of course, being part of HGTV’s Flipping the Heartland was a thrilling experience—I never imagined I’d see myself on TV. But I don’t dwell on past successes—I bask in the gratitude, savor the moment, and then move forward, eager for the next creative adventure.
